IGI submitted entry
« on: Monday 07 January 08 17:02 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
A submitted entry on IGI records one of my ancestors dying in 1909 in Arapahoe, Nebraska.
There is no source information available.
Is there anyway I can corroborate this?
Thanks

According to LDS catalogue there are Arapahoes in Colorado, Kansas and North Carolina, which is strange because there's certainly one in Nebraska.
Nebraska is one of the states that doesn't have records online.

Thanks for the link  :D
I think I may have found her on the 1880 Nebraska census (the free one available on ancestry)
Fingers crossed

Just a quick update.
I'm as sure as I can be that I've found her.
This is what I already knew:
Marion Wood, born 1833, Cheshire. Parents Thomas and Helen (both born Scotland)
Living in and around St Helens area 1841/1851 census (I lose her after this)

This is what I've found:
1880 census Furnas, Nebraska:
Marion D'Allemand, born 1834 Eng. Mother born Scot. Father born Scot.
Adolph D'Allemand, born 1836 Fra. Mother born Fra. Father born Fra.
Also numerous children (aged from 21 to 3) - 5 born in Ireland, 3 born in Nebraska.
Can't find a birth record for any Irish born child (although I wasn't really expecting to)

Also found an IGI extracted record:
Marion Wood married Adolphus D'Allemand, 17 Jun 1855, St Helens.

So I think I'll assume that the submitted entry for her death in Nebraska 1909 is correct.

Just thought I'd share  :)

Civil registration of births in Ireland only started in 1864 so probably too early for parents 1855 marriage.

Did the submitted entry have the name of the person who submitted it? I have contacted people on occasion when I have seen things there. They are usually very helpful, and could be family.

Hi Kath,
No, the entry just says: No source information available
But to be honest I'm quite happy with what I've found already.
I'm certain it's her on the 1880 Nebraska census.
She was my maternal grt grandfathers sister.
I've had a look on ancestry for any possible connections, but the amount of variant spellings of D'Allemande is huge!
Although I think I'll leave her line as it is. I only tend to go upto 1900 with other family lines and this one takes me just short of that (c1870)

Just a quick question though - who submits an entry?
Is it a family member or can anyone?

Anyone can submit the information. I have found ...   ::) wrong info on there, so anything I find I always check. Church members also submit information. I wish I could let things go like that. I get a little obsessive about tracking down to present day if possible. I am in the process of trying to find my great-grandmother's 9 siblings' families. I know it's crazy, but it can be fun.

I know what you mean  :D
My grt grandfather and his siblings where born and raised within spitting distance of where I live (I never knew this before)
Following them on the census has been such a joy. Most of them had farms in and around the Cheshire/Lancashire area.
And Velpremus (on the Cheshire board) has been such a great help in tracking them down.
I love this site, the friendliness and helpfulness of other people never ceases to amaze me  :D
