Bacon on the Move
« on: Tuesday 08 January 08 20:14 GMT (UK) »
I would like some thoughts on the following, many moons ago i was looking for George Bacon in the 1871 census, and "Spendlove" very kindly replied that he was in Harden, Yorks. as a railway porter under the name Bacen, age 17, b. Beper,  i eventually got around to checking the census myself, and discovered that there was also a John Bacen, age 15 lodging in the same house, but he was b. Heath.
Is Heath close enough to Belper for them to be related, or was it just chance that the two young Bacons, finished up as porters many miles from home ?

Belper Derbyshire to Heath (Chesterfield Derbyshire) is about 18 miles.  So not too far.

If they both worked on the railway, they could have got to anywhere I suppose.
