Little bit of history -which you possibly know
The Tiger and Cross Keys are still there and the post office has moved into the cross keys

Flower lillies
1857 Whites Directory
A handsome residence on a good elevation, a little north of the village is the seat and property of J G Crompton esq

Present day
Windley Hall is a georgian house and includes buildings in the grounds which was once a brewery and then a cooperative cheese factory - this building is now a holiday let

Enjoy your trip to Turnditch -are you going to stay in the ex brewery/cheese house???

It's great to walk the paths your ancestors walked

Hi

I would think it unlikely that there would be two Samuel Warren's of Turnditch, both married to a Mary and both working as coal higglers (hagglers).  I have a birth certificate, details as follows

Eliza Warren, died on the 29th November 1847 aged 9 months
Daughter of Samuel Warren - Coal Higgler.
Cause of death not known, no medical attendant for 10 days
Signature - the mark of Mary Warren, present at the death, Turnditch.
Death registered 3rd December 1847.

In your notes you mention Eliza outlived her parents and hers was a sad tale.  Can you expand on these points please.

Regards
Peter

Hello Peter

There must be a relation between the two Warrens. I will try to summerise on the Eliza I know and maybe it will help understand where she got her name from.

In 1851
Samuel and Mary
William a 6
George a 2
Hannah a 8

In 1861
Samuel and Mary have
Georgianna a 9
Eliza   a 7
Samuel a 4
Boarder George Smith brother in law a 41
Lads had left home

1871
Samuel and Mary
William a 26
Eliza   a 17

Girls had left

1881
Samuel and Mary Sam is farming 2 acres
Eliza    a 27
George Smith boarder
Now we have Eliza on her own with mam and dad.

From the Topic Summary you will see the rest of the family are doing ok

1891

Samuel dies aged 75  1880?
Mary Warren
Eliza  a 37
Joseph   Grandson aged 9 (Was this child born out of wedlock so thats why Eliza was left alone? Was she socially impaired?
George Smith Brother a 70

1901

Mary dies aged 78 1895

Eliza is now on her own. Her income is  'living by own means'
next door but three from the Tiger in.

Iam wondering now if this Eliza was named after the dead child? If just seems strange she is not married and left alone. I know George and William lost three children in 1894 over the same period of months there graves are there.

I hope this summary helps understanding Eliza.

Regards

Grant
