Well I think that the passenger list is correct as it lists my ancestor Betsy and "Betsy" and the age is correct. So I probably have the right family there, just back in Scotland I got a bit mixed up.

What do the different Fiche numbers mean???? I thought they would be the same family as they came over at the same time. Is this wrong??

Ireland - McMullen/McMullin, Noonan, McNamara, Moore, Ogle,
Grenada to SA and Vic - Hain, Hains, Haines (Victoria)
Redman (Sussex to Victoria, Australia)
Dalgleish (Scotland and then onto Victoria, Australia)
Palmer (?? to Sth Aust to Victoria)

I have found what looks like the death of Elizabeth Dalgleish who arrived in 1855....but she is Dalgleish.....  :-\

Elizth  DALGLEISH aged 66 died in 1914 at Broomfield
Father = Wm Dalgleish  & Mother = Elizth BROWN
Ref = 8550

Clair the index does not group families as such - the list is of all the DALGLEISH persons onboard.  I may be wrong - and I often am - but usually the family tends to have the same fiche no - in other words recorded at the one time together.  Gosh I didn't explain that well did I :-[  Someone else is sure to have a better explanation.

Found a birth

1855/11227
DALGLEISH Elliot
Father Wm
Mother Elizth BROWN
Birth Place MT ELEPHAN

If it is your family then perhaps we have to look in a different area of Vic.

Cheers

Clair - do you have the marriage certificate as this would give the correct parents and her father's occupation.

Will press on and see what we can find for you.

It fits,

After spending a bit of money on Scotlands People I have found a list of children of William and Elizabeth Brown. All born Yarrow, Selkirkshire, Scotland.

John 19/11/1836
Janet 12/10/1838
Elizabeth 7/3/1847
William 10/12/1848
Agnes 6/7/1851

My dial up at home is too slow today for the certificates or census to load so I will have to wait until next week at work (lunch hours are great).

Thanks for you help guys. I think I have a lot to digest from this post. Will have a think and get back to you.

Many thanks again

Clair

Cando - attached is a copy of Edwin and Betsy's marriage. He was a farmer.
