Hi Bel,

Glad that helps - wondered about 2 Janes - perhaps the first one was ill and they baptised it late and it then died - so they called the next one Jane - I've had that happened on my tree!!

When I get to Shrewsbury I will see what they have extra

Cheers

Keith

Hi Bel,

On my trip to Shropshire Archives I managed to get the following:

Worthen

Nov 10th, 1793 John son of William & Mary Preece

Feb 4th 1797 Baptism of Ann Daughter of John & Mary Preece
June 21st1797 Burial of Ann  Daughter of John Preece

April 13th, 1794 Abraham son of John & Mary Preece

Nov 9th 1794 Joseph son of Joseph & Mary Preece

June 21st 1795 James son of Abram & Ann Preece

June 7th 1796 Ann daughter of Robert & Margaret Preece [Brockton]

Aug 6th 1797 Catherine Daughter of Abraham & Ann Preece

Couldn’t find a marriage of Benjamin Preece & Sarah in Stapleton around 1828

I know some of these names might not be yours, but maybe they will come in useful later!!

Cheers

Hi Irene,
I went to Shrewsbury Archives yesterday – here is the information I could glean – not too much extra information I am afraid. By the way the Whitchurch records were in an original notebook –written in pencil, tied up with ribbon – loose leaf and very delicate!!
Marriages –
Whitchurch
April 22nd 1700 Roger Cooke of W and Mary G[Y?]ates

January 19th 1729 Rich Cooke & Ann Low – p o W [Parish of Whitchurch]

I had another look for Elizabeth Chesters – no E.C’s from 1733 –1748 – must have been a late christening or in another town! Again found a couple of others
Mary Dau of Thomas Chester & Margaret June 4th 1745
Margaret Dau of Thomas Chester & Margaret May 6th 1745

Adderley

Joseph Hunt OTP – Hannah Bloore OTP by Banns 31st Dec 1829
X marks for both
Presence of Mary Bloore – John Hunt [x mark of]

John Hunt OTP – Mary Blantern OTP by licence 18th Nov 1809
Presence of John Griffiths – Lydia Madeley

Norton in Hales

Abraham Bloore – Rhoda Austin – by licence 7th Nov 1792
Presence of Joseph Austin – Thomas Shorley[??]

Hope you can read latin!!
Unfortunately I don’t so tried to copy best I could!!

Norton 1720
Anthus filius Daniel is Bloor et Sara Dutton Megittrimum Caprizabus vigelimo secundo die February

Also near the above I found the following – latin again!!

Julanna uxor Thome Bloor sepulta Octovadie

Baptisms
Oct 15th 1758 Abraham son of Thomas Bloor -----------[blank - sorry] Bloor

1830 Feb 21st
James son of Joseph & Hannah Hunt – Norton – Labourer

As I say I am sorry there is not much new information other than a few witnesses – viewing the records was difficult as the fiche were unclear in a lot of cases – especially the one you wanted – Bloor in 1758 – not trying get sympathy as I enjoyed it – but I now understand why records differ as I now see how easy it is for them to get wrongly transcribed.
Anyway hope that helps a little
Cheers

Hi Tara,

Went to Shrewsbury Archives yesterday and gleaned the following information.

Only thing I could find for the baptism of William Blackmore is as follows:

March 6th, 1763

William son of Edward & Elizabeth Brys-----[ more??]
Ending could be "more" or "on" – don’t think the second letter is a l tho!!

Nothing else for 8 years either side.
No others of this name either.

The Banns of the marriage between William Blackmore of the Parish of Aston Beterell & Elizabeth Bennet of this Parish were published on 3 separate [?] Sundays and no impediments.

8th October 1788
In the presence of Samuel Catstrel – Richard Onslew

1845 May[?] 19th Ralph [parents] Edward & Sarah Blackmore  -Wheathill – Labourer – by B Churton[vicar]

While I was looking at the Whitchurch Parish records for Irene[above] I found the following – probably not much use but here goes:
March 1st 1748 William son of Benjamin Blackmore and [blank] his wife
Sept 15th 1753 Sarah Dau of Benjamin & Ann Blackmore
Jan 11th Dau of Benjamin & Ann Blackmore
July 22nd 1758 Catherine dau of Benjamin & Ann Blackmore

Sorry ran out of time for the marriage of Edward – next time perhaps!!

Not as much as I was hoping for – but hope this little helps

Cheers

Hi Keith,

Mulling over the results of your search - thank you very much - the addition of witnesses at marriages certainly helps!!

Regarding the Latin - the benefit of a "classical education" helps me with these old records - uxor is wife, filias son, et is and etc etc.  The dates and months are similar to our English language.  However I'm struggling at the moment with the phrase "Megittrimum Caprizabus vigelimo".

Will now have to go down under the house to the boxes of my old latin books from school which are still there somewhere!  I'm 58 and last did Latin at the age of 16 so hopefully I'll find them!!

Thanks again,  Irene
