John Duncan
« on: Saturday 12 January 08 20:33 GMT (UK) »
The 1841 British Census has John Duncan and Anne (Archibald) living in Cleikum, Airlie with 2 of their grandchildren.  I have not been able to find John Duncan's birth nor Anne's.  According to "The Black Notebook" - a family notebook - John Duncan's parents were Robert Duncan and Elan (or Helen or Ellen) Ogilvy. Elan had a brother, David Ogilvy, who joined Lord Dundee and was at the Battle of Killiecrankie.

Can anyone help.

welcome to rootschat  :)

as a note the battle of killiecrankie 1689
it might not be the same branch of ogilvie's but mine ended up dundee
and monifieth
i have a feeling that i've wandered across this line a few times in
my research - there has always been ogilvies in north angus that don't
seem to link up to my branch
i'll have a look through my books and see if anything stands out
helen(etc) is a strong name on my ogilvies

yours

Hi EV,

The Family Black Notebook states that after the Battle of Killiecrankie David Ogilvy came home to Clovay to live out his days.  He kept a low profile being against the government!

Cheers,
Dunlata

Do you have John's Death? If it was after 1855 and in Scotland , you would be able to locate on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. This would confirm his parent's names and also give you his age which would give you an approximation of when he was born.
Andrew, Donald (Wester Highlands), Muckersie (Perth), Symon(s) (Dundee)

Hi Sherlock,

I have only been able to ascertain an about date for John Duncan's birth. i.e.  abt 1765 based on his age given in the 1841 Census.

I have no idea when he died.

Cheers,
Dunlata
