Robert Hodgson 1855
« on: Wednesday 05 January 05 08:27 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace both the birth and the death of my Great Grandfather, Robert Hodgson.
Born around 1855 I believe and died 1888-1901.

Do you know where he lived? Any more details? Where have you looked already?

Thanks for the reply Jan,

Sorry if I didn't give enough info I am new to all this!

All I can tell you is that I have my Grandfather's birth cert (1889) on which his father's occupation was "coal miner" and my Grandfather's marriage cert (1908) on which his father is marked as "deceased", and was a "miner".

A record on the Family Search web site (1881 census) shows him as being aged 26 and married (no children at this stage) living in Cornsay, Durham. The 1901 census shows 4 children and his wife is shown as a widow (no entry for him), and they were living in Lanchester.

As the 4th, and last child - my grandfather was born in 1889 and she is a widow by the 1901 census so I am assuming he died within that timescale.

What I would like is to find his date of birth (and get a cert if there was one then, if not a copy of the scanned records), his marriage certificate and his date of death with a copy of any cert. or record.

Does this help?

Hi

Here's the 1891 Census entry for your family. Your GrGr Grandmother was a widow, so that narrows your search for Robert's death to a few years.
