Register of St John, Newcastle
« on: Wednesday 16 January 08 17:20 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for details of the marriage of William Hardy to Ann Nelson on 19 Dec 1790 at Saint John, Newcastle?
Thanks

Newcastle St John's

William Hardy and Ann Nelson, both of this parish. Witnesses: Alexander Norock and Mary Coburn, and William Burn.  Coburn and Burn are frequent flyers.

Don't mean to sound dumb, but does it actually say on the entry that Coburn and Burn are frequent flyers?  If it does what does it mean? ???

Didn't think they flew in those days ;D ;D ;D ;D

Means they were witnesses in many many marriages and probably not family.

Thanks, both, gave me a chuckle.
So, I presume that frequent fliers where people who could write, well at least their name.
Janis, did marriages of those days not have fathers named on them?

I was thinking they maybe lived near the church or maybe a warden or maybe the gardener.   Marriages from before 1837 did not have parental information.  On occation it might say if they were a widower/widow.

Thanks, Janis
I'm learning more and more.
So, is there a route to go, now to try and find parents?
Liz.
