Rhosneigr/Llanfaelog/Maelog
« on: Thursday 17 January 08 00:50 GMT (UK) »
I am confused that these places mentioned in the subject heading are all the same place or are the seperate and if seperate are they all in the same area and how far apart.

My gt grandfather was born here as far as I can gather from the censuses.

Thanks for any info supplied

I have just answered my own question by looking them all up on google earth and they are all very close and Maelog seems to be in the picture with Rhosneigr and Llanfaelog further inland but close by and I was also looking for the distance from here to TyCroes which is also close by.

I often get people on Genes giving the Welsh place names and not sure to answer or not but now it is all so much clearer to me.

I am in Southport Merseyside but my ancestors came from Maelog /Llanfaelog/Rhosnegir born William Williams 1790s and son Richard born 1821 both Joiners and lived at Lower Mountain Row in 1851 census with their respective families and later could be Floresse street Hollyhead in 1861 and my grandfather Richard Williams b1842 born Hollyhead later moved to Liverpool and then Bootle where he remained for the rest of his life.
My father Thomas Owen Williams was born Bootle 1891 and I have had the most difficult time doing this research and only found this line with help from friends I have found on Here and the BBC family history Board

It has been a long time in unfurling this family and I am now familiar with the area thanks to Google Earth.

I am told that we have a family called Griffith from TyCroes that an old lady in her 90s used to visit by train from here when she was a young girl and can remember walking from the station up the hill to a house where the Griffiths family lived but its difficult getting information as she is the mother of my genes contact and she is my cousin who lives locally to me but I have not yet met.

Sorry to be long winded in answering your question but you now have the answer.

Thank you for your interest

Hi Edna

My maternal Grandmother was Annie Griffith and her family also came from Llanfaelog, Rhosneigr area. My Great Aunt also lived in Bryn Du which is just down the road from Ty Croes. I was brought up in Ty Croes - Maes Cynlas but moved to York when I was 5.

What details do you have for the Griffith family which is linked to your family?

Thomas, Williams,Owen (s),Griffith (s), Jones - Anglesey
Burns, Wallace - Northumberland, Ireland, Scotland
Horsburgh, Sandilands, Blackhall, Rankine, Rankin, Hilson, Nielson - Scotland
Turnbull, Mills, Burgoyne, Burgon - Northumberland,
Davidson - Scotland, India, Burma
Lopez - India, Burma
Hi Edna Yes it is me - my Pc crashed a couple of times earlier this year and I lost quite a few things - including Family Tree though luckily I had just done a backup the first time.

Back to normal now if you can call it that lol
