Thanks, Lora, for checking for Janet's headstone in Cathcart!  The cemetery does seem to be a bit of a mess in that section.  I may be in Glasgow this summer, and perhaps I'll try to track down the tombs of Janet and her son Thomas and Thomas' wife Catherine.

regards,
Bruce Cockburn (of Edmonton, Canada)

Not looking for anything - I just thought I'd say welcome back Lora!

You've been missed.

Good afternoon,

Please could someone see if there is a headstone for Margaret (Maggie) Ditchburn Graham Shaw.  17.12.1903 - 20.08.1907.  She died of measles.  Her parents are buried in Kirkcaldy, but on their headstsone it states Maggie was buried in Cathcart.

Many thanks,   Yvonne

Hi Yvonne, sorry for the delay, I thought I used to be notified of replies, but I'm not (yes it was stupid of me not to check!)  Cathcart cemetery is huge so the chances of coming across her grave accidentally are quite slim.  Your best bet would be to contact East Renfrewshire council, who, going by earlier posts in this thread, are very helpful at giving out lair details.  Their burial enquiries phone no is: 0141 577 3913 from here:

Thanks for your reply.  I will give them a ring and see what they come up with.

Hello,  the lady at the burial records was VERY helpful.  The lair details are Section M, Lair 280.  However she couldn't tell me if there is a headstone, but there are 4 people in the lair.  In addition to Margaret Ditchburn Graham Shaw there is Richard Masson d 07.03.1892, Emma Masson d 02.05.1891 and John Harvey d 10.12.1919.  Two of these people I know are Maggie's extended family - the other was completely new to me and has given me another line of research!

That's great. I'll go and take a look at the weekend, weather permitting.

It doesn't seem to have been that uncommon, having other people buried in the lair who weren't close family.  We discovered a neighbour in a family plot, so it could be that John Harvey isn't related at all!
