IGI Confused

Hi, I have looked on the IGI for a marriage of Jack Macgregor Wilson and Gertrude Mitchell approx 1945 in Widnes, possibly St Pauls. Nothing came up at all!

A friend (who has been doing this a lot longer than me), said he found on the IGI the above marriage 1st Qrt 1945.

What am I doing wrong that I cannot see or find this???? ??? ???

I tried Jack and John Wilson/MacGregor/McGregor, marriages 1945 plus or minus 10 years but with no luck either...  :-\

Here is what he said, I have copied it exactly:

If you look on the I.G.I you will find only one marriage that fits the bill .Do not forget it will not mention Widnes as the registation district in those days was Prescot ,but now Halton .

Still confused???

Would he have been married by the name of Jack .. surely it would have been John .. ?
