Hi all,
Here's a little something to tie in Moys, Ballyharg, and Robert Ferguson!
I am descended from John Cochrane, Sr. who had a son, John, Jr. baptized in Ballykelly Presbyterian Church in 1812 -- John Cochrane, Sr. was living at Moys at the time, later moved to Largy, and ultimately, in the 1831 census, was living in the townland of Deer Park.
John Cochrane, Sr. had a brother, Samuel Cochrane, who also lived at Moys, but later moved into Carrick -- he died in the early 1860's. I've just uncovered the fact that Samuel Cochrane's youngest daughter, Elizabeth Cochrane, who was baptized in Ballykelly in 1818, was married to one William Simpson, who died on May 18, 1857 and left an extensive will. At the time he was living at Killaloo, Upper Cumber parish and the executor of his estate was one Robert Ferguson of Carrick.
One of William and Mary (Cochrane) Simpson's daughters, Catherine (24 Feb 1853 - 20 Feb 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) married James Wilson. Their oldest child, William Simpson Wilson (22 Oct 1876-12 Nov 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was born at Straid, Banagher, his father James Wilson was shown to be a Blacksmith at Straid.
Another of William and Mary (Cochrane) Simpson's daughters, Eliza Jane Simpson (born ca. 1846) was married to James Smith, Farmer at Ballyhargan, on December 29, 1864 (both were minors) in the Presbyterian Church of Lower Cumber.
So there you have it, Moys, Straid, Carrick, Ballyhargan and Robert Ferguson -- all wrapped up with another family of the Roe Valley. Any possible connection of Robert Ferguson to the Cochranes?
Cheers! Richard Cochran in Michigan, USA
