thanks for that

the reason i belive james wife was a deborah williamson is that the name carried through the family

the last one being my mothers sister

perhaps the williamson could have been a christian name as it was used as one for two following generations

i dont think the above is the same family but i could be wrong

as i do have a george and samuel lafferty as children of james and george was the witness at my grt grandfathers wedding

do you by any chance have the exact date james died in 1862 as i dont have a copy of the original cert

thankyou so much for all of your help

Ok Chrissey,  I'm not sure where to start here .
If you've got a firmly established line straight back to James Death cert in 1862, then Deborah ( Williamson) is more than likely to be his daughter. Or at the very least a close relation, but I would think a daughter ,because of James Snr (d.1862) mother being called Deborah.

Why?  On James death cert April 1862, Roxburgh St, his death was registered by an Alexander Lafferty. (The first James Lafferty in your results)

Alexander Laverty marries from 23 Market St in Dec 1862, and one of his witnesses is a William Williamson.

A child of William Williamson and Deborah Laverty, James Alexander is born at 23 Market St.    Parents of child were married in 1859, Tamlat (Tamlaght) O'Crilly, Co. Londonderry.

I'm not going to send you all details or certs, because I think you should have a wee go on
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

For £6.00 you should be able to do searches on '' La*ty'',  this would cover most variations except an ''ie'' ending.  Plus get the certs for the above birth, marriage and death (and spare credits for 2 more certs.)

I think there is a tutorial on using S.P. on the Scottish Board.

That's good that Deborah registered the death.   It just tidies things up beautifully... ;D

Next step Ireland---build up your strength you'll need it.

Have a look at G.V.  -  search county Londonderry( Derry) , Parish of Tamlaght ocrilly Search on surnames LAF, LAV,  Williamson.

There are quite a few Williamsons in Tamlaght O'Crilly.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

So there is , but not a lot of Lavertys.. ;)

The family appeared to be Non-Catholic  in Scotland, and the marriage also appears on Irishgenealogy.ie. Derry,    so William Williamson got the year of his marriage correct on his sons Scottish Birth Cert....(it has occasionally been known for some husbands to get it wrong  :( )

So I think  there's a good chance of Gro Ireland being able to supply the June 1859 marriage cert.

http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

and thereafter to the order certs page. Using the spelling ''Lafferty'' for ordering as in Brian Mitchells entry.

Hopefully this may give townland names.

Marriage certificate will give residence of bride and groom at the time of the marriage which may or may not be the place they were born or where their families were living.
