Hi Karen.

I was just in the process of replying to you, when your message came through, no unfortunately we knew very little about him.
We believe he was in the trenches, ( had terrible Shellshock ) but not where, if I could get some confirmation as to his parents, that would be an enormous help, there where 3 John Griffins on the IGI for 1866, but non with a father named Martin. I wasn't aware that I could search the Canadian Census free, going to do so now.

Kind regards  Scouse

You can also check passenger lists at www.ancestorsonboard.com

I found one John Griffin coming from Ireland to Canada, but he is a police constable headed for Toronto, Ontario in 1914 at the age of 23  :(

Is the passport a Canadian passport?  Would that not mean he was born in Canada  :-\

Hi Karen.

Sorry for the delay, I was watching Liverpool on the PC.
In answer to your question, on his passport it states that he was a British Subject.
