Mary Ann GARDNER born Tunbridge Kent 1846

Hi,
Looking for info on the parents and ancestors of Mary Ann GARDNER(GARDINER?)born Tunbridge Kent abt 1846. Married Thomas CONSTABLE at Carshalton Surrey 1866 and they migrated to Australia 1873. Mary Ann died 1928 at Ryde NSW.

Looks like Albert is Mary Ann's step father. Do you have her Australian death certificate? It should give her father's name.

There are a couple of other Mary Gardeners on the 1851 census if you think this may not be the right one.

Can't see Mary Ann in 1861 but I've found the rest of the family.

Albert is now Alfred and he's a greengrocer. There are two more children and George is listed as a lodger rather than a son.

Perhaps George and Mary Ann were born out of wedlock as Mary Ann seems too young to have been married before?

The 1841 census shows a William aged 25 and Mary Ann aged 15 GARDNER living at Waterman's Fields, Woolwich.  William's occupation is 'army' and he was not born in county, Mary Ann was born in Kent.

No relationship given of course so could be husband and wife of brother and sister.  There are several deaths for William GARDNERS between 1841 & 1847 on freeBMD

I have the certificate from Mary Ann's 2nd marriage in 1899 in Australia. ( Forgot I had it!). It states that her parents were John Gardner and Mary Ann Warne. I will have a look and see what comes up.  Thanks for your help.

I'm struggling to find Mary Ann born Tunbridge/Tonbridge around 1846 in any census.

I can't see anything definite either but did wonder about this family because there is a link to the Tonbridge area and they are in Carshalton, Surrey by 1871.  Also there are visitors whose name could be WARN

Hi Cas,
I found the info on the 1871 as well. This is the correct family and I alsobelieve  the visitor's name is WARN. I believe the Warns and their ancestors were Romanis but I have only just started looking at this line so don't know much about them yet.
