Hello Ken,

Is this one more than co-incidence?

I have received info telling me that number 21679 is not my grandfathers number although it is a Wilson   Arthur Wilson.
Still searching for Aaron Charles Wilson

Hi Ken

Have you noted that there are quite a few Charlie Wilson's too:

He looks to be wearing a new uniform on the photo of him sat down.  His puttees would suggest he is an infantryman.

Hi Ken and Julie

It's a pity we can't see the full hat on the photo of Aaron/Charlie as a young man.  It is an early photo as the stiffener is still in the hat.

Is there any chance you can rescan the photo so that we can see the full cap (or at least, the full cap badge).  :)

Hello Atom, thanks for the reply the hat badge in the early photo has been identified as that of The Somerset Light Infantry. but the badge in the later photo of Aaron charles Wilson is different.  We can make out the Prince of Wales Feathers, but not what is underneath. His brother was in the Welch Regiment,  but could this badge be long to the Glamorgan Yeomanry?

Regards Ken

Hi Ken

OK fine, I'm thinking it might be best to scan in the cap badge to see what you think, but I think he's with the Welsh Regiment.  :)

Not an easy one Ken, but I found this medal index card for a Charles A Wilson with the Welsh Regiment:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/02ug/

and also a Charlie Wilson who served with both the Lincolns and The Welsh:

Hi Ken

Just found this interesting information.  During WW1, the 74th (Yeomanry) Division were dismounted, so that the 24th  (Pembroke and Glamorgan Yeomanry) became a battalion of the Welsh Regiment, which is an infantry regiment.

See here:

http://www.1914-1918.net/74div.htm

(Scroll down to 231st Brigade)   ;)
