Thanks Debbie, that's very interesting. In William's will he leaves 2 Inns to his widow. I learned he was a constable from a poster ( forbidding ball games!) and also have in my notes that he was a grocer. The phrase 'jack of all trades' springs to mind :)

Thanks again

Hi Lee

You are very welcome, an early entrepreneur by the sounds of it.  Do you know where he was born?  there are no earlier Burchells in Eynsham

I haven't got a clue where he was born. This is my mother's family and I've only come across it in the last couple of days after years of looking.
I believe the couple might have been married in Oxford itself in 1815 but I haven't tracked anything down yet - quite a lot of churches to choose from  ???

That's great - thank you . OTP means then as now i guess that they'd lived there since the banns were posted, rather than that they were born there  :( I'll find 'em tho. You've been a wonderful help, thank you. This is great for my mother who knows absolutely nothing of her fathers family at all.

Yes lived there just for the time required before the wedding - William may have been in Oxford doing an appreticeship as a hatter?  as that was his first known occupation

Thanks for these Barbara - that adds some extra children and some info about occupations.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I should do next to find out about where WILLIAM BURCHELL b. abt 1786 came from? If it doesn't give any clues on the PRs for his wedding I'm at a bit of a loss...

Regards,
Lee
