The transcripts only go up to 1812; for entries after this you need to look at the microfilm for full details of the entries. Some, but not all, of the post 1812 entries have been extracted onto the IGI, but the gaps are covered on the BVRI.

Baptisms
Apr 21 1722 William son of William, labourer
Jul 12 1789 Richard son of William & Elizabeth, labourer
May 26 1793 Ann dau of William & Elizabeth, labourer
Apr 18 1802 Thomas of William & Elizabeth
Sep 27 1812 Mary dau of William & Elizabeth

Marriages from 1731
30 Sep 1731 Samuel Crouch of Meppershall carpenter & Elizabeth Goldsmith widow of Henlow
4 May 1731/2 Edward Berry labourer & Martha Crouch of Holwell
15 Dec 1738 Edward Randle & Mary Crouch
12 Jan 1786 William Crouch of Shillington & Elizabeth Musick
3 Dec 1808 Thomas Crouch of Wilshamstead & Elizabeth Marcy

Baptisms from BVRI, all children of Thomas & Elizabeth at Southill
Amelia 21 Dec 1813
Marianne 26 Oct 1817
Matthew 3 Oct 1819
Hannah 14 Oct 1821 buried 19 Jun 1831 age 10
Charles 2 Nov 1823
Mary 24 Dec 1826 buried 8 Jun 1831 age 6 (impossible to tell which of the Thomas & Elizabeths were the parents)
William 17 Oct 1830 (not the same Thomas & Elizabeth - this was the Thomas b 1802**)
Hannah 6 Oct 1833
John 22 Sept 1833 buried 19 Feb 1843 age 11 (the same parents as William above)

Also buried in Southill
18 Oct 1812 Mary Crouch (no other detail)
16 Apr 1818 William Crouch age 65
20 March 1843 Thomas Crouch age 43
30 Jul 1862 Thomas Crouch age 80
14 Dec 1869 Elizabeth Crouch age 69 (wife of Thomas buried 1843)

Do you have them in the 1841/51/61 censuses? If not I'll run them off

There are a number of Crouchs mentioned in Southill Baptist Church Book, so parts at least of the family were non-conformist - you may have to try to piece them together from marriages and burials if they are your line. I'll try to pull out the relevant names.

It looks to me as though the Thomas you are asking about - b 1783 - is the one from Wilshamstead, but there's nothing on the IGI

I assume this is the Louisa who married George Gregory, with whom Hannah Crouch was lodging in 1851. Do you have the marriage cert? It probably won't help a lot as there were the two Thomas's both reproducing in Southill in the mid 1820's***

Regards

David

** Thomas Crouch married Elizabeth Wright at Southill 11 Feb 1826

*** I’ve finally found the family in 1841 indexed on Ancestry as Benet! Not one letter is correct. I despair at times!
HO107/9/16 folio 10
Southill
Thomas Crouch 56 ag lab
Elizabeth Crouch 53
John Crouch 26 ag lab
Mary Ann Crouch 24
Matthew Crouch 22
Charles Crouch 18
Louisa Crouch 16
Lucy Crouch 14
Edward Crouch 10
Hannah Crouch 7
All born in Beds

So they seemed to be fairly cavalier about baptising their children; some were, some weren’t.

PPPS Definitely the last amendment. Any more and I'll start a new message!

Thank you so much for all of your help.

From your information It would look as though the Thomas & Elizabeth I am after is Thomas & Elizabeth Marcy as John & Mary Ann on 1841 are born c1815/1817 so would suggest the marriage between Thomas & Elizabeth Wright is too late.

I have the census returns - thank you. Anything else you could turn up regarding this line on BVRI etc would be most welcome and appreciated.

Hi Lorrie,

I have Louisa, Hannah and Thomas in my family tree too so looks like we have a connection. My line is from Louisa who married George Gregory. I actually have some photographs of Lucy Caroline Odell (nee Gregory) who was the daughter of George and Louisa if you are interested?

It would be good to hear from you

Deb

Hi Deb
Good to hear another connection. My line is via Amelia Gregory who married George Sole their son married my Gran's sister.
It would be great to have a copy of the picture if its not too much trouble. I have a couple of the Sole family.
