Sorry to have doubted you.

That's quite all right Scott, we're not always right!  When they put different occupations or change them it can get quite confusing, I'm working on a family with the head as a shoemaker, who suddenly becomes a labourer in a coalmine.....

Good luck in Gateshead

I've since talked to a relative who has done some footwork and found out that
Isaac's father was another Isaac Thompson born in 1771 and his mother was a Margaret
Jackson born 1774 in a place called Brancepeth. She apparently is related to the American
President Andrew Jackson and Confederate General Stonewall Jackson.
Her mother was an Ann Caslah and her father was Jacob Jackson born in 1745. His mother
was a Margaret Oston. Where are these fascinating surnames now?
Isaac Thompson Senior's father may have been a Thomas Thompson but that is uncertain and
the trail runs cold from that point on.

Just for the sake of completeness. Is there a 1861 census for this family?
Thanks

Thank you!
All the males worked for the railroad! Boy, it must of been interesting conversation for the
women folk at the dinner table!

I must ask you to forgive my lack of organization. Since I have undertaken this ever growing project I have not
encountered the problems of research availablity  that had plagued my grandfather the last time it was attempted. Just the opposite! I am surrounded by a sea of papers, half-drawn tree charts and different coloured post-its with bearly legible dates and names.
I just need three more things to wrap up the loose ends for the Thompson's of Hartlepool; the 1881 Census for the
Isaac and Hannah Thompson family (I doubt that either Isaac or Hannah survived to the 1891 Census) and the 1881 Census and1901 Census for the John and Amanda Thompson.
Can any of you good people help?
Scott

Hi Scott,

You can look up the 1881 census yourself free at www.familysearch.org www.ancestry.co.uk or www.findmypast.com

I am still on the trail of the elusive Thompson Family!
Now I am trying to find Isaac Thompson's son Isaac who appears in the 1841 Census
as a 4 year old. I think he married a woman called Eliza Knight and according to the Teeside
Registrar he was about 30 when they married in 1866. In the 1881 Census there is only one
person who might fit the bill. He is Isac Thompson, a railway clerk married to an Eliza and they have several
children of which one, Edith is on the 1871 Census living with her grandparents Isaac and Hannah
Thompson. The only problem is this Isac is 6 years younger than I would hope.
Could someone please check the 1871 census for this Isac or Isaac Thompson?
Thanks
Scott
