Medallion inscribed B&CH " MILE ROAD RACE
« on: Sunday 03 February 08 14:49 GMT (UK) »

 Hi
I wonder if anyone may know about this Medal?
It was incribed on one side:
Won by J, Wells on the other side it said
 "B & C H 2 Mile Road Race 1901"
The race was in Bath on 12 April 1901 when James Wells was 11 years old.
It  has been thought maybe it was The Bath & County Harriers club...
If anyone knowns anything about this club or the race.
We Would love to hear from them.
Kind regards Chris.

I don't know anything about medals or races, but I bet it was reported in the local newspapers. You can find out about these, and where they are held on the NEWSPLAN site for the South West

Hope this helps

Hi
Yes we have tried the Bath newspaper but they did not have the record.
Thanks for your help.
Kind regards Chris

Did you only look in one paper? If there is a choice of papers for a particular date it's always a good idea to check them all. I usually find that some stories appear in one paper but not another, and even when it appears in more than one you get different details (not always conflicting). In this case you seem to have a choice of the Bath Chronicle, the Bath Journal, the Bath Herald, the Bath Weekly Argus and the Bathe Evening Chronicle. The BL Catalogue also lists the Bath Observer, which doesn't appear in the Newsplan list.

I wondered if there might be a sporting paper you could try, and these are mostly quite short-lived, but there was a Bristol Athletic News published 1898-1904 that might be worth a look if all else fails.
