Flitwick Wood Steppingly
« on: Monday 04 February 08 00:43 GMT (UK) »
Is there anyone out there who can tell me if this is still a farm or not.  In 1841 and 1851 census records my greatgrandfather, George Cook and family, lived on the property, and it was a working farm.  In later census records up tp 1901 it was still occupied by Cooks.  Any information at all will be gratefully received

There is a Wood Farm on the edge of Flitwick Wood, in the parish of Flitwick but right on the border with Steppingley parish.  This appears to still be a farm - the Royal Mail gives its address as:
J. Heywood Ltd, Wood Farm, Flitwick, Bedford, MK45 5WF
However, it isn't listed on www.imagesofengland.co.uk suggesting it isn't a listed building - this perhaps implies that it's been rebuilt in more recent times.  Certainly the Mid Bedfordshire District Council website shows that Wood Farm Cottage next door obtained planning permission to be rebuilt in 1999 following fire damage.
Hope that helps.
Richard.

Thankyou Richard,

As I live in Australia, and there is no likelyhood of my ever being able to visit the UK, it is good to know that there are people like you on the net who can find things out for us Colonials.

Meryl from Downunder.
