looking for John MAHON b~1835 son of Thomas
« on: Monday 04 February 08 14:48 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for a John MAHON b~1835, son of Thomas, who married my great-aunt. I'm not sure whether or not he was born in Meath.  One possiblilty below suggests this.
DETAILS:
My great aunt Sarah Ann(e) BEACHAM was baptized in Tickenham Somerset England on 29 Jan 1837.
1841 she lived with her parents in Clevedon Somerset, misspelled Beecham, age 4.
1851 she was a 14 yo servant (misspelled Beachem) for a fruit-seller named Dodge in St Mary Redcliff, Bristol Temple, Gloucestershire (HO107 / 1947 / folio 290 / page 39)
1857, May 31 she married John MAHON, a carpenter with a deceased father Thomas at St Joseph Catholic Chapel on Trenchard Street. Their ages were both listed as 22 on the marriage certificate. The residence for both was listed as Blackfriars, St James, Bristol. This Catholic Chapel was closed in 1861 when it was converted into a school and rooms for St Mary on the Quay.
Both she and John then disappear after 1857. I can't find an 1851 census listing for John Mahon. I can't find an 1861 or 1871 census listing for them.

possible Deaths:
Deaths Sep 1859 MAHON Sarah Ann Bristol 6a 30
Deaths Mar 1860 Mahon Sarah Ann Bedminster 5c 606
Deaths Dec 1857 Mahon John Bristol 6a 4_
Deaths Jun 1861 Mahon John Bristol 6a 43

I found one possibility but there are probably others, and I don't know how to pursue this one:
John Mahon born 1834 with a father Thomas who died in 1856, and would therefore be dead at the time of John's marriage to my great-aunt.

I emailed & received this response:
I believe Thomas Mahon would have been my husband's great, great grandfather. He is buried in the Catholic Cemetary in Savannah. We believe that he came from County West Meath,Ireland in about 1840.We also believe that the name may have been MacMahon or McMahon.Sorry I can't be of more help.

Can anyone shed further light on this or other possibilities for John MAHON b~1835?
