hi,looking for any information on john delahunty,he was born tipperary(according to family tradition)in approx 1880,and came over to england in the late 1890's,i think it would be the same man shown on the 1901 census, living at florin street salford, with brothers patrick james and michael,i know he also had a sister in salford, but do not know her name.
he is shown as a stonemason on his marriage cert, but when he died in 1914,aged 36,he is shown as a tram driver living in the greengate area of salford/manchester.
john's father is shown as john delahunty coachman (domestic),i am not sure what that means, and i think he stayed in ireland.
any help or advise much appreciated.julie

Hiya Jue,

A domestic coachman, such as John's father, was probably in private service (working for a wealthy person who may have owned an estate) as opposed to a coachman working on coaches on which a member of the public could travel.
