Sproat/Glendinning
« on: Thursday 07 February 08 01:28 GMT (UK) »
NEW GUY--I'm looking for information on the marriage of David Sproat and Elisabeth/Elizabeth Glendininng. Their oldest child was born in 1821 possibly in the Borgue area. They both died in Castle Douglas. I'm trying to verify that my gggrandfather, Thomas born May 1829, was their son. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi jsproat

There is no marriage showing on the OPRs unfortunately.

From the 1841 census, there are a number of Thomas Sproats showing.  The closest in age to 1829 is the one in the household of David and Elizabeth.  Everyone showing as born in Kirkcudbrightshire :

David Sproat    40, late farmer
Elizabeth Sproat 40
David Sproat    16
James Sproat    14
Thomas Sproat    13
William Sproat    12
Barbara Sproat    12
Alexander Sproat 11
John Sproat    8
Elizabeth Sproat 4
Robert Sproat    2

Address: Claycroft, Crossmichael, Kirkcudbrightshire

To verify 100% that these are your Thomas's parents, you would need to check his marriage or death certs which will include this info.

Regards.

Monica  :)
