Hi Steve 100

Both the 1891 and 1901 show Elizabeth as born Wiltshire - not Northwich

The 1901 says Highworth and the 1891 Swindon

Hi Tony

As their first child was b London - there is a possibility they may have married in that area

Freebmd has a William Vernon/Elizabeth Telling marriage in the June quarter 1884  St George Hanover Square  Volume 1a Page 863 but the only way of knowing if it's the right one is by buying a copy of one of the childrens birth certificates which will show Elizabeth's maiden name

The 1891 image shows Ethel as Ethel My - not specifically as Ethel May

There is this birth on freebmd which ties in with the registration district for the marriage

September quarter 1884  Ethel Mary Vernon    St. George Hanover Square  1a 497

Hi

The 1861 census does not have a William Vernon born in Northwich around 1860.  However - I noticed they were living in Witton in 1891 so wondered whether this may be him on the 1861 census for Witton

All born Witton

James Vernon 39 waterman
Harriet 40
Sarah 17
Samuel 15
Jane 9
Thomas 6
William 2 b Witton

1871 census for Witton - children all b Witton

Harriet 52 Waterman's wife b Barnton Cheshire - shown as married not widowed so presumably James was "on the water"
Jane 18  dressmaker
William 12
James 9

If Ethel's birth cert confirms Elizabeth's maiden name as Telling - you can then buy a copy of William & Elizabeth's marriage certificate which will give their respective fathers names and occupations

This will confirm if the 1861 entry above is the correct one and enable us to help you research further back

Hi
I am new to this website and geneology in general, but I was looking for Vernon's in Cheshire and I came across your message it appears that I am a descendant of James and Harriet Vernon (nee Yarwood) their  daughter Jane Vernon is my Great Grandmother she married George Bebbington on October 6th 1875 and they had eight children one being my Grandfather who immigrated to New Zealand if anybody has any more information or connections to James and Harriet Vernon I would be very interested in hearing from you.
Thank you
