1901

William 55 Coal miner
Mary 57
William 28
Oliver 22
James 17
Samuel 15
Frances 14
Arthur 11
Alice Cockerill grandaughter 9

all the lads are coal miners (Mary must have had a lot of washing to do)

No sign of a Frank.

Sorry to have to ask you, diesel, but where did the original mention of Frank come from? We clearly have the family you have described here, but there is no Frank with them, nor is there a birth in the indexes.

Makes me wonder about the James marriage you have.

If James was a 17 yr old coalminer in Leicestershire in 1901, in the same village he was born in, along with his Dad who had spent all his working life down the mine, and brothers doing the same then ..
.... it is unlikely he would be marrying in Bulwell Nottingham in 1908 with his father as a gamekeeper.

Although having said that I do note that the James who marries is a miner.

I thin diesel said Kate E died in 1882

Clara marries Joseph Cockerill in JFM 1889 and is with him and a couple of babies in 1901 (RG12 2513 13 19) still in Swannington, and no brother Frank with her

I suspect that "frank" was really something else.

Maybe William or Oliver.
There are possible marriages for these two in Ashby reg distr. ANd both have an Edith on the page as a possible spouse!
Whoops, just noticed it is supposed to be Ethel that "Frank" marries!

never mind,
AP/Ma/Jun 1903
Oliver Curtis to Edith Tindall or Mary Wright

1904
William Curtis to Edith Wardle

but treat with caution unless backed up by certs - as I said in a previous post there are other children around of similar ages with same range of names in same area, so could be one of them marrying.
