Sorry, but I am getting more lost!

Is it the son, Grenville, who has mother's maiden name Miller? Is that where the Miller idea came from leading to the finding of the marriage 23 years earlier?

Lets take it from Grenville and work back.

Or are you saying that whole line is in doubt, it is JAmes bn 1887 that is the DEFINITE starting point, and he has a younger bro called Frank bn 1891, and you want to trace Frank downwards?

In which case, lets take it from  Frank (1891) and work down.

I wont pursue this line upwards any more till I hear back from you.

Are you sure Granville is a rellie of yours? Should we be working from him at all?

Or are you sure that the Leicester lot (James , Frank plus many siblings) are yours? in which case I will go back tothem and work down.

Hi Liz
James is the definite starting point and i Know he had a younger brother called Frank, who was about3-4 years younger. Franks wife was Ethel and they had a son Grenville/Granville.  My informant is a little vague about some of the dates as he was very young at the time and it was his grandfather! :D
Sorry to confuse you but I have been like this for months now with tis problem.

I know from marriage cert for James that father was William a gamekeeper and in 1908 James was 21 a miner living in Crown Street bulwell when he married Elsie Rhodes Toft in Bulwell.
As far as I can gather I have the correct family But.....

Swannington comes in the reg district for Ashby de la Zouch, and I have been looking at births on FreeBMD for this area.
There are clearly more than one family having babies around the same years and using the same range of names, so I would hazzard a guess that William had brothers around in the area.

Anyway, I have found the following which look like yours from the list you gave of James and Frank's siblings. Of course - two that I cant find are James and Frank!!
The only JAmes's are born 1878, 1883, 1894 0r 98.

Clara Ap/AMy/Jun 1871
William Jan/febMar1873
Sarah Ann Oc/Nov/Dec 1976
Harriet p/May/Jun 1877
oliver Ap/MAy/Jun 1879
Edith A Jan/Feb/MAr 1882
Frances either Jul/Au/Sep 1885, or Ap/may/Jun 1887

are you sure Frank isnt actually Francis?

- oooh great minds, Wozzle!!!

had a look on 1901 census frances still down as daughter so that appears to blow that idea out of the water.
