This is the closest I can see for Helen in 1851. Everyone showing as born in Aberlour:

Margaret Shearer 42, farm servant's wife
Jaames Shearer    9
Ann Shearer    7
Hellen Shearer    4
Elspet Shearer    2

Address: Weastertown

In 1861, there is a Helen Shearer, 14, b. Aberlour, working out of the home as a domestic servant in Botriphnie, Banff.

You then have the 1871 census which you have found, everyone showing as born in Mortlach:

Maryaret Sherner 35
James Duff    7
William Sherner 3
Helen Sherner    24, sister
Alexander Simpson 2mo

Address:  Woodside, Mortlach

JAMES DUFF OR SHEARER Birth: 14 OCT 1863  Mortlach, Banff, Scotland
Parents: ALEXANDER DUFF and MARGARET SHEARER

WILLIAM SHEARER  Birth: 27 MAY 1867 Mortlach, Banff, Scotland
Parents:Mother:MARGARET SHEARER

Regards.

Monica

Gt Gt Grandfather lived in Rothes all his life until he moved into the cottage in Elgin.  Not able to find where the family who all lived in Rothes are buried.  I assume it might be in Rothes somewhere.  The listing on the Moray site doesnt show him or his wive's neither does the Spynie cemetery ones.

There is a lair book for Rothes which lists who was buried when, but it doesn't go back all that far - second half of 19th century I'd say. It isn't indexed in LIBINDX.

As far as I know it's only the gravestones in Spynie and Rothes which have been indexed so far, not the burials. Most people didn't have stones.

If it's before 1855 there are some burial records in the Rothes parish register, though it's not always easy to tie them up to the individuals as the information is sometimes a bit thin.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Barb

You might be in luck with a possible entry for William Shearer post 1855  :)   From the 1861 census:

William Sherrar 58, Pauper (farm Serv), b. Mortlach
Margaret Sherrar 51, Pauper (domestic Serv), b. Moeraven, Banffshire
John Michie 2, grandson, , b. Mortlach *
George Heorelie 26, lodger, b. fyvie Aberdeenshire

Address: Woodside Buchrom, Mortlach

::) This looks like another of Margaret Shearer's out of wedlock children:

JOHN SHEARER  Birth: 13 JUN 1858  Mortlach, Banff, Scotland
Parents:Mother: MARGARET SHEARER

Looks like Margaret might have been a "dressmaker" :o ::)

Helen looks to have been a good wife to James Snr.  His daughter Ann named a child after her so she must have been a good stepmother to his remaining children.

I have a picture of James Snr's son headstone from Rothes Cemetery (over the road from Glengrant distillery) good spot to soak up a dram or two!

Alexander Younie b 31/8/1868 d 14/12/1913 (44); wife Jessie Anne d 23/4/1970 (91); daughter Mary d 1987 (87).

Old James Snr was a strict father,  I thought Alex went to USA but it was his nephew.  James (my Gt Grandpa) went to Tasmania and never went back.

There were  all these born and bred and working in Rothes     - James Youne (1st generation) B 1765, wife Margaret ;
their son Alexander (2nd)d 1857 his wife Margaret;
their son James(3rd) d 1909 (in New Spynie). (James Snr) 1st wife Jane d 1874 in Rothes; 2nd wife Helen Shearer ??

How confusing is that?

Located a few of them on the Libindix.  There's lots of Younie's in the Moray area all born about the same time all having the name James, Alexander, Margaret, Ann, Jessie, John etc etc.

Just pondering.

Helen Shearer YOUNIE could have died before James Younie who died in 1909 (82) - his son signed his death certificate.  James may have been living with him in Fochabers - he had senility someone had to be looking after him.

Helen was born in 1847 and was a Spinster when they married in 1879 (32) - could have died first?

Frustrating when leads come to a brick wall isnt it?
