Missing believed in Daventry!
« on: Saturday 09 February 08 12:07 GMT (UK) »
Hello and Can anyone help please?
I have a family of Blacksmiths in Willoughby Warwickshire,
The top of the family was John COWLEY who on the on the 1841 census in Willoughby born out of county between 1756-1761.
He had a son CAPEL COWLEY who latter married one of my ancestors.
A Capel COWlEY married in Willoughby in 1796.
A tree on Ancestry has a John COWLEY married to Hannah CAPEL  who have a Sarah in 1757 in DAVENTRY then a 10 year gap until they have William 1767 in WILLOUGHBY they have other children including a Capel in 1773 in Willoughby but no John.
Is it possible that some one can see if there are any other children to John and Hannah COWLEY in Daventry 1757-1767 please as this looks likely to be my John's family.

Many many thanks so my theory seems vindicated I don't suppose the father's occupation was given too early I think. You have just made my day

Hi I am related to the Cowley family of Willoughby and have just come across this post.

I am however trying to piece together the link between my earliest Moses Cowley (bef c1699-1763) of Willoughby and your John Cowley who married Hannah Capel.

I know there must be a link because in Moses' will of 1763 John Cowley of Kilsby is a beneficiary and is left property in Willoughby. In 1764 John and Hannah had their first child baptised in Willoughby so it seems apparent they must have moved here due to the bequest.

I just wondered if your research following this post may be able to shed any light on how John Cowley who married Hannah Capel was related to my ancestor Moses Cowley?

Moses eldest son born in 1721 was named John Cowley but he dies in 1742 with I assume John was a family name. It would seem likely to me your John Cowley was perhaps a nephew or cousin of Moses. Have you found anything else out?

If you would like a copy of the will please message me your email address and I will send it to you.

With thanks and kind regards,
Jon

Many thanks "Magic" (I'm droping the "past" because the Magic bit reflects your invaluable help)
Has An...ry got the Willoughby baptisms on line by any chance I looked at the free to view search this morning and saw they had William Cowley's baptism and wondered what the source was
Will check the other one out
