« on: Saturday 09 February 08 21:39 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I am looking for  family of Richard Williams, Richard was born ab: 1855   Llanrhystyd, Cardiganshire
I don't know his father's name, his Mother was Elizabeth  Lewis,   when he married he had 2 daughter's that I know of
Elizabeth & Suzanne  both born in Penparcau  ab: 1880 & 1882, also trying to find whether their Mother was Elizabeth or Mary,  I have found a Richard Williams born ab: 1812 in  Llanbadurn Fawr,  but  cannot connect anyone together yet,
any help would be very much appreciated

Hi Jenny

Quote
when he married he had 2 daughter's that I know of
Elizabeth & Suzanne  both born in Penparcau  ab: 1880 & 1882

If Suzanne was b 1880 - Have you checked the 1881 census which is free at www.familysearch.org

I presume the marriage you are referring to above was his second marriage.  A copy of his marriage cert will give you his fathers name

I checked the 1861 census and found this entry all b Llanrhystyd

Elizabeth Williams 41 sailors wife
William 11
John 6
Richard 6
Elizabeth 3

I went back to the 1851 but just Elizabeth & son William are shown

Forward to 1871 and Richard is a servant and no trace of Elizabeth jnr or snr together so nothing known about his father

In 1881 - Richard is shown as a coal miner aged 26 b Llanrhystyd married but he is in lodgings in Ystradyfodwg, Glamorgan without wife/child

The head of household was Edward Rees

Hi Carole,
Thank you so much for those lookups,  that was very kind of you,   I had a look on family search,  the only Susannah I could find and with a sister Elizabeth  was in
festiniog, Merioneth,  and a couple of their siblings were born in Gefngwyn, Malltwyd.    I will look these places  up & see where  they are placed,  but am not trying to pronounce
  them.

Hi Jenny

1891 census for Glamorgan

Richard Williams 37 coal miner b Llanrhystyd, Cardiganshire
Mary 32 b Llanbadarn-Fawr  Cardiganshire
Elizabeth 11  ditto
Susannah M  8  ditto
Lodgers
William Williams 19  Morgan Lewis 19

Births - Susannah Mary Williams December quarter 1882
Aberystwyth  Cardiganshire  Volume: 11b  Page: 56

A copy of her birth cert will give you her mothers name and maiden name which will make tracing Richard's marriage a lot easier (unless she was also Williams!!)

Hi Clare

One final thing just to possibly complicate matters - I know Richard shouldn't have been in 2 places at once in 1881 but have a look at this entry - again living in Glamorgan.  Unfortunately the entry does not show specific birthplaces within Cardiganshire

Mary's age and Richard's occupation do not link to the 1891 entry either

Woodfield St  Clase (Swansea) Glamorgan

Richard Williams 26 b Cardiganshire occ looks like Speller works
Mary 32                          ditto
Elizabeth 1                      ditto

BUT - the other Richard I found was living in lodgings in Ystradyfodwg, Glamorgan

The 1871 has an entry for a Richard Williams aged 16 son of David & Mary.  He is a coalminer and b Llanafan Cardiganshire BUT the family are living in Ystradyfodwg, Glamorgan

Oh Dear!!!   the more I look at it the more confused I get,
I wonder if it is possible he was living away  for work,  the 2 daughter's Elizabeth & Susannah were born in Cardiganshire  1880 & 1882  but were in Glamorgan in 1881, unless the girls dates of birth are a bit out
Thanks Carole,  will have to look at this one, it was good of you to pick it up,  have been so busy this week, my mind is not functioning, not that it takes much  to go blank
