Looking for a John Furmston, help!!
« on: Sunday 10 February 08 02:18 GMT (UK) »
John Furmston,  baptised 1821 in Ellesmere, Shrop.  Parents Edward & Ann Furmston.I have all the records for his parents and siblings, but he has me puzzled. I haven't been able to find him on census records at all. His father died in 1839 & John was mentioned in his will,so I gather from this he is still alive in 1839.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello Pam,

Thank you I have these records unfortunately this is not my John but obviously rellies.

The Ann Furmston age 73 you found is his grandmother, she died a couple of years later,  I have also found a John Furmston in Cross st Ellesmere at 14 years of age an apprentice grocer for his brother Edward, on the 1841 census.  However as he has a brother  Edward and, this is him,
I figure the age of 14 when he was actually 20 made me wary to take it as my John.
What do you think?

Judy

hello
Was your  Edward married to a Sarah? The age for John is 14
on the 1841. It seems as if it is the right family. Is is possible that John 1821 died and another John born??

Hi again,

Yes Edward was married to Sarah and definately a brother to John.
John,s mother had 2 more children after John, Susannah 1823 & Henry 1824. Two months after the birth of Henry his mother died, Henry also died when he was 4 months old
So there was not another john in this family, so I don't know why if John the apprentice was Edwards brother he was listed as 14. Maybe another relative.
I haven't been able to find him on other census records, unless he died after 1839 when he was mentioned in his fathers will . or, maybe he emigrated to another country!!

Judy.

Hi Judy  :)

I'll just put up the link to the previous thread to avoid possibly duplication of effort:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,280719.0.html

Have you checked the Welsh censuses for him - Denbighshire and Flintshire bordering parishes might turn something up.

Regards

There is a possibility that he might be in the Hanmer/Bangor on Dee, etc. parishes that are on the Flintshire side of the border from Ellesmere and, very sadly, i think the 1841 census for those parishes are missing  :'( :'( :'(

Thanks again Gadget, I guess I should say here that John is a brother to Thomas on the previous thread.
Is this permissable to continue to ask for help with the same family, I do hope someone there will tell me if I'm not running true to form, this is all so new to me, the internet etc; I don't want to do the wrong thing as you have all been so kind.
I will follow through with the last post advice.
