Shaw/ Howe families, Nairn

My great great grandfather was James Shaw, born in Duffus, Morayshire in 1818. He lived for most of his adult life in Wellington Square, Nairn. he was married to Margaret Smith, daughter of William Smith and Margaret Forsyth. James was, at various times,  master of boats named Atlas, Telegraph and Seabelle.

James and Margaret's daughter, Catherine, born 1870 in Nairn, married Clarence Samuel Howe. They moved to Aberdeen but Catherine went back to Nairn after Clarence's death in 1932. She died, at Wellington Square, in 1949.

I know that Clarence Howe received a citation for bravery from the king of Norway, for his part in a rescue off the Old Bar and I believe that at least one member of the Shaw family was also involved.

If anyone can tell me anything about these people, I should love to hear from them.

Thanks, yes, they are mine. I have James in 1851, plainly he was at sea for the 1881 census - he died in 1885, aged 67ish. I don't have the family in 1861 or '71 so would welcome that information if anyone has it.

also i forgot this:

scotlandspeople have 1 match (death records) for margaret shaw other surnames "smith" in 1886 aged 61years in Nairn.

i havent viewed the actual cert though so cant be certain it is definitely the right match.

Thank you so much for all the information in your last two postings. Sorry it has taken forever to get back to you, I have been on holiday and for three weeks, completely forgot to think about long lost ancestors.

This is useful to me as it has details which I hadn't previously found. The Margaret Shaw ( Smith) who died in 1886 is mine so if you have anything else on that, I'd love to have it.

 The person I really need to find is her father, William and now that you have told me his address and his occupation, I may make some progress on that. I have his marriage to Margaret Forsyth in 1813 but no further information on him at all.

His wife, Margaret  Smith nee Forsyth is on the 1841 census in Nairn with a mother, Jane. Both are widowed and neither born in the county.

I need to spend more time in Nairn!!
