c1750 birth: William SMALES/SMAILES
« on: Tuesday 12 February 08 17:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

My William Smales was married on 6th Feb 1769 in the parish of Hawnby and the baptism records of two of his sons state that his father, John Smales, was of Kilburn.

I believe that William Smales was born around 1750 and have been trying to find a birth/baptism record. The likely parishes are:
Kilburn (where his father was from and 2 siblings were born)
Hawnby (where he was married and his last 3 children were born)
Over Silton (where his first 2 children were born)

However, any of the surrounding parishes are also possible.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Stephen

I haven't been on here for some time so just seen your post!

I have a relative, Elizabeth Smales b 1771 who I believe could be your William's daughter.  She was born at Over Silton but I have no record of her mother.  Does this tie in with your William?  She went on to marry William Mascall.

Most of the families are Durham/N Yorks based with Nolan and Westwood originating in Staffs.  Aitchison (Midlothian) MacKinnon(Fife)

You will find the Hawnby transcripts for Smailes at the above site. There is no William son of John but there about 6 children to a William Smailes but no mother named.
Good luck
