G F Black's The Surnames of Scotland says that the name Dargavel(l) is from the place of this name in the parish of Erskine in Renfewshire, and that persons of this name are found mostly in Dumfries-shire.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Sanquhar had a thriving cotton and wool trade and the weaving that was associated with it. This is a good piece if you look at the section Post Office and Wool Trade. It covers the weaving industry at Crawick as well. Crawick is only about 1 mile from Sanquhar.
