1700's Bridport birth/baptism/marriage: Archilaus SANDFORD

Hi all,

The IGI baptism record shows the parents of an Ann Sandford (baptised 1780) to be Archilaus Sandford and Sarah.

Despite the father's strange name, I have not been able to find any more traces of him including either birth/baptism or marriage to Sarah.

Is there anyone who may be able to find something?

These are siblings for Ann, children of Archilaus and Sarah. It looks as though Ann and Ophelia could possibly be twins

This is exactly what I was after.

One thing; according to the 1841 and 1851 censuses Ann Sandford was born in 1770. It could be possible that she was baptised 10 years after she was born right?

Any ideas how I might find a reference to her year of birth?

Hi,

Yes it is possible for a Christening to take place much later than the birth, the film number for Ann's entry is FHL Film 1239249. If you live near enough to a LDS Family History Centre you could order the film to see if it gives more information. Then of course if you are lucky someone may have access to the original parish records for Symondsbury and could look it up for you

Archilaus and Sarah did not marry until 1775 so 1780 could be correct

I do not know if Ann married so have not seen the census returns. Do remember that in 1841 ages were rounded down to the nearest 5 years.
