Hi There

I am trying to find a David John born in Swansea c1790, on his daughters marriage certificate in 1837 it stated he was a tailor by trade.

His daughter was married at St Marys Swansea if this is any help, sorry I am a bit vague but this is all I know and I am just hoping that some clever person out there can help me

Regards
Sheila

Hi Sheila

What else does it say on his daughter's marriage cert?

Her name for example?  ;D

It is easier to go back in easy stages, so if you can find her at home with her parents before marriage and then go back from there it would be best.

Can you give ALL the info you have on her, including marriage witnesses, husband's name etc please?  Then we can see whether Sue's finding is a good match.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

Hello again

I wonder how you know he was born c 1790 - is this a guess?

There are lots of David JOHNs in 1841, assuming he lived that long.  Will have a quick look to see if there is anything hopeful.

There is a submitted IGI record for a Catherine of the right age born to a David and Esther JOHN in Pembrokeshire - might be completely off-track though, take care!

Then again - what is Catherine's age?  "Full age" is anything over 21 so she could be older.  Have you got her on later censuses?

Out of interest, what does she call her own children -t hat is sometimes a clue.

Hi Arranroots

Regarding the age of David John, it is a guess.

On the 1841/1851 census I have Catherine Thomas nee JOHN down as living in Jockey Street Swansea aged 25 (1841) aged 34 (1851) so I have assumed she was born around 1817. Mind you in the later census from 1871 her age is a little different she is stated as being 48?, me thinks it is a little forgetfulness on her part, as you know when we get a little older we do tend to forget how old we are ;)

Catherine's children are called :-

Levy
Mary
Ann
Thomas Stafford
Lettice
William
John
Martha

These are the ones I have found on Census info, thanks for taking the time to help me

Kind Regards
Sheila
