NZ: Disgusting theft of 9 VC medals

A totally shocking  theft from Waiouru Army Museum in the early hours of this morning of 9 Victoria Crosses (including Charles Upham's aned bar) and 3 other distinguished medals.

This appears to be extremely well planned as it happened in minutes and the security on the medals was very heavy alarm wise.  Having seen the alcove where the medals are exhibited in January this year, i have no idea how they managed it.

They're got the medals back HOOORAAYYY!!!! SPLENDID!!!  All in excellent condition and verified as the stolen medals.  This is a good day!

What great news.

I just hope that the person who has received the reward is not connected in any way to the robbery. It would be a great pity if that was the reason for the medals being stolen in the first place.

It certainly looks that way doesn't it Lizzy.

I don't know anything about NZ law but let's hope if one of the thieves did get  the reward then they go to prison for a long time and that the money  is confiscated otherwise it's going to send out the wrong message.

For those that dont know the medals were returned to the Valour Alcove yesterday - 21st October in a very moving ceremony - security has been "beefed" up and two of the "gentlemen" responsible for the theft appeared in Court today. One of my friends Grandfathers medals were one of the sets stolen and she was down there to see them returned ever greater for her son who is in the Army he was one of the Guard of Honour.
