One more charge and then be dumb,
When the forts of Folly fall,
May the victors when they come
Find my body near the wall.

You'll have to have long arms..We are at either end of the country!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Anyway I thought it looked like the buttons had been bulled quite a bit, and the relief was indistinct (as well as the photo)!!

Nothing to do with bulling as you well know Scrim ... ; the relief on buttons were very deep at that time.  Anyway, with my my fours eyes, plus two = six .... your outnumbered!

Presumably then, the Irish and Coldstream buttons are very similar and even though my eyesight isn't as perfect as it was, my eyes were very well trained in my previous occupation, so with the help of specs and an example of an Irish button I could hopefully settle the argument. So if either of you or anybody else could please post a picture of a c.WW1 Irish guard button that would be a great help.  8) Alan  :-*

Hi Alan

iI wish I could find the button for you but it eludes me.  Found this link below, but on enlarging both pictures for a better look at the buttons the pixulation makes it worse - and the buttons do appear to have a + effect, rather than the shamrock that should be seen.   ???

Have a look and see what you think!  I can't find a Coldstreamer on the MICs for you but have found a possible Irish Guard.  :P

Of all the Irish Guards buttons I can find...all of them just have the harp and crown...nothing like the cap badge with the shamrock in the middle...even some kings crown ones...

Perhaps it's someone else....

Perhaps the filmakers had the same problem locating Irish buttons as us and used coldstream buttons instead and hoped nobody would notice. I had a look at the National Archive page as suggested yesterday (found the 4 I.G. candidates) but it doesn't seem to give any precise details. I've also just written to the Imperial War Museum for suggestions.
