Just found your message.

Do you have any information about William's parents at all as I have over 100 William Rossiters in my database?

Best wishes

Hi Ladyhawk,

Many thanks for that.

Interesting to see the surname differences for Catherine between Lancashire BMD and Lancashire OPC.

In the marriage FreeBMD gives Catherine Summer.

Best wishes

Hi Ladyhawk,

Thanks for that.

Unfortunately, I cannot find a match in my database at present.

I'm surmising that they possibly married in Ireland before emigrating to England hence no marriage record in England.

I have replied to KR asking for further info but it's quite possible that this line is new to me and not in my database yet.

Thank again for your help.

Best wishes

Hi rcuser,
Thanks for your reply.

William Rossetter married Catherine Kennedy in 1853 Liverpool.
I have just sent for the marriage cert.

I have a 1861 & 1871 census in Manchester which I believe is them.
On the 1851 they have children aged 23,19,and 14, which I believe are Kennedy children and William Rositer age 6 which is theirs.

I am trying to establish whether the child Bridget Rositer aged 19 is my gt gt grandmother Bridget Kennedy. I can't find these older children under the name of Rossiter in future census records.

KR  :)

Hi KR,

Many thanks for that.

A bit of a puzzle this one. It looks like Kennedy is Catherine's married name so looking back we are looking for a Kennedy who married a Catherine before 1837 in Ireland.

They had James, Bridget and Patrick in Ireland and probably emigrated to Liverpool where something happened to Catherine's husband prior to 1853. There are a lot of male Kennedy deaths in Manchester and Liverpool in the period from Patrick's birth to Catherine's marriage to William in 1853 so at this stage it's not possible to identify accurately who Catherine's husband was.

Before 1871 the family were living in the Manchester Central area. James and Bridget have left home possibly due to death, marriage or emigration. Not sure which at this stage.

There is a strong connection between Manchester and Liverpool with is family  and on checking the 1881 UK Census I found this which might be son William:-
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/Census/individual_record.asp?indi_code=1881BR%5F3679012%5F12&lds=5&region=1&regionfriendly=1881+British+Census&frompage=99

The birth place is recorded as Ireland but that could be an error.

Given that the family is living in Manchester from 1861 to 1871 and Bridget disappears in that period she could have got married. Unfortunately again there are too many marriages.

I'll keep looking to see what else I can find.

Best wishes
