Address in Rhosnessney
« on: Sunday 17 February 08 15:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am just sorting through some old photos that my dad has and I'm curious to see if my grandfather address is still there or if not does someone know where or what became of it?
The address is 6 Park View, Rhosnessney.

Regards

Doggy

A search on www.streetmap.co.uk does not show one in Wrexham. I would guess it was near Park Avenue which is in the same area and is still there. It might be worth enquiring at the A N Palmer centre to confirm.

Sorry.

Hi Peter

Thanks for looking.  They were living there from at least around the 1901 census until some time in the twenties I guess.  I forgot to look and see if it is on oldmaps.co.uk  ::)

Cheers again

Acton Park is in Rhosnessney area, could have been thereabouts,
if you give us a clue with names , ages, place of birth  for 1901 census ,could have a look and try to locate it.

Hi Wilcoxon

My grandfather was Percival Vaughan JONES born 1893 Ruabon, Father was Edward 1862 Ruabon and mother Jane Shropshire, Pontesbury.

I would guess that it used to be roughly where Herbert Jennings Avenue now is. Close to Acton Park and Oak Drive is also close - there is mention of Oak Lodge and Oak Cottages in the 1901 which are no longer there as well. Acton Park Farm also used to be in the same area (I actually remember buying a bottle of milk from there) and again that is in the next pages.

Hi Peter

Thank you so much for looking into this.  I tried to look at old maps and the change in the area from the early maps to 1930's is amazing.  Any ideas what all the new housing was for (industry or overspill from other connurbations or something else)?

Cheers

Just new houses - probably about 40 years ago but I may well be wrong. Oak Drive where my grandparents used to live was definitely council property covering a pretty large area. The new houses may be council & private at a guess.  It is a long time since I saw them properly although I do go a little in that direction for old times sake!

I`m certain there is a street index in  Palmer centre, but it could be only for town, I`ll have a look when I go again.
Around the Gate Hangs High area, heading back up to Acton Gate, it`s mostly private housing now, but I would imagine they are about 30 / 40 years old.
Practically every village on the outskirts of Wrexham has grown so much in the last 10/15 years, they are in danger of  meeting up in the middle.
All new soulless estates with no character. ???
