I would say James is probably 'our James' - but what of the other two (seperate householld, John and Margaret are Heads of their own Households............

And I found this....
A Wellington McGREGOR age 22, born  Florence Ontario (abt 1869)  married in 1891 in Chatham, district,  Kent Co. Ontario to Mary BREEN age 21 b Chatham. They married in the Catholic faith.  Wellington's parents are stated to be John McGREGOR and Mary OUTHOUSE.

Bit of an anti climax in face of the list of James' McGREGOR's parents and siblings... (and I notice some anomolies on the Ancestry tree Deb, did you notice - when you look at Margaret - it seems to be a different person - some sorting to do there between the various trees - one seems to have her as Maiden name McGREGOR the other as McDERMAND .........but....anyway,,,,,

And - an Alex McGREGOR was  the Enumerator of this  Census record  too

BIRTH:
8 Apr 1874, Euphemia, Lambton, Ontario
Alexander McGREGOR, male,
Parents: James McGREGOR, Freehold Farmer,  and Lydia OUTHOUSE
I think this is a huge error - on part of parents and/or registrar/and/or  the Doctor who was the Informant. And  this birth is actually meant to be Nellie!!
Everything else for Alex points to him being born Dec 1869.

Just popped on for a sec..have to go out for a while...Ambly you're pretty amazing on the Canadian records 

I'll have a look properly this pm, but first impressions would be that we have a much wider range of options in Scotland.  With parents showing as potentially born in Argyll (we've been focusing in only on Perthshire ~ where did that ref come from I wonder  ) and a potential maiden name for James's mother.

This looks like banns/marriage entries.  Interesting that Donald is down as either James/Donald in the second one.

    Still  no sign of James here, although plenty of gaps for him between 1820-24:

Great job!! ... I am having coffee and need to reread what I have just read ... brain cells are not up to scratch so early in the morning 

What struck me initially was that James' mum maiden name , McDermid sounded so similar to Lydis's mum's name ...McDermand.

Ambly ...I think you had a great statement in an  earlier posting , where you mentioned the family's penchant for using middle names    It seems to be true , even with earlier generations!
