ANNIS Dilemma
« on: Monday 18 February 08 18:37 GMT (UK) »
This dilemma is regarding the mothers name of  Francis Henry John Annis born 1915 in Devonport.
I believe him to be the grandson of Henry Annis born 1840 from this thread-
"ANNIS - 1841/1851 census please"

His birth Certificate states his parents to be
Father-   Francis Edward Annis Leading Signalman RN
Mother- Kathleen Annis(formerly Price)
I searched for a marriage between Francis Annis & Kathleen Price….. Nothing!
But I did find a marriage for a Francis Edward Annis & Kathleen Warmington in 1913

Francis Edward Annis    28   Bachelor   Sig RN   (Father) Henry Annis     Pensioner RN
Kathleen Warmington   19   Spinster                   (Father) Charlie Warmington

Francis Edward Annis died in 1918 whilst at sea aboard the HMS Sarnia and Kathleen remarried in 1920, and on this record Kathleens father is the same as her marriage to Francis Edward Annis…. Charles Warmington
I know that the  Kathleen”Price”  on Francis Henry John Annis(1915) birth certificate is the same woman as Kathleen Warmington as her address is the same as when she got re married.

My dilemma is why on her son’s birth certificate is Kathleen a Price?
I cannot find a birth for her in Price or Warmington that fits in with everything else. There is another 2 Kathleen Warmington’s born around the same time but I cant find any connection there neither?
I have access to all census returns and I cant pin point anything!
Any Ideas will be gratefully received as it is getting rather expensive purchasing so many certificates?

Cheers Debzi

Hi Debra

do you have Kathleen on 1901...?

I have seen this boy : Clarence Warmington b c 1896 , Plymouth ...he is adopted ... i wonder if this has something to do with the surname change ... Just thinking out loud here  :-\

A couple of possibilities occurred to me:

Maybe she married, before, and was widowed ~ or the marriage annulled.

Maybe she was born before her mother married, first using her mother's maiden name, but later taking her father's, or stepfather's, surname. This happened somewhere in my family.

Debs,
Not sure about the Clarence but I have seen the entry.
I cant find Kathleen on a 1901 census with her father Charles warmington.

Hi Tricia,
Believe me I have thought of these possibilities too, but she was a spinster on her marriage to Francis Edward Annis.

As for the mothers maiden name it is a possibility, I have searched for her as a Price also, but to no avail..... But why would she give her name as formerly Price on her sons birth  but on her marriage 2 years earlier she gave it as Warmington???

Beats Me?

Hi Sue
I dont think anybody will be able to get to the bottom of it unless they have access to parish records, which I dont unfortunately
