Ship Inn, Eston, Yorks
« on: Sunday 09 January 05 18:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

Have recently discovered that several generations of my family (surname of Allison) ran the Ship Inn, Eston, Yorkshire during the 19th century.

I live near Birmingham and so far have not had the time to visit the area or the pub.

Does anyone know anything about the Ship Inn and its history?  Anyone got any photographs old or recent or know where I can find out more information?

Thanks,

Binky
 :)

There is an old picture of the Ship Inn, I'll see if I can scan a copy for you. I can take a picture of what it is like now ( I pass it most days !! and drink in Eston most Fridays !! )
I have a book on the history of Eston, I'll see if there's anything in there also my wifes family come from and still live in Eston so I'll ask them also. drop your email in a message to me and I'll get back to you.

here are the pics of the Ship Inn Eston. old and new.
Do you have an intrest in Eston ?
It was a sad day in the churchyard . a large tree came down and has destroyed a lot of the old headstones. fortunately I have already recorded them in digital pictures.

Thanks for those brilliant photos Mike.  I don't have a specific interest in Eston - I just love old photos generally!  :D

Best wishes

Blimey, there's a blast from the past.

I have no connection with the Ship in Eston apart from some serious under age drinking in my misspent youth. But there were Allisons, butchers, in the 50s,  in Lazenby which is all of two miles down the road. Could they have been yours?

Hi Mike,
I too have been waiting for those photos. I can imagine that my great grandfather used the the Ship Inn when he lived at Eston in the early 1860's and before he moved down the road to South Bank. Well done and thank you.
His first two children were buried there, I wonder did your timely photography capture their gravestones although he probably could not afford such a luxury.

Thomas Michael Pearce buried 6 Aug 1865
Martha Ann Pearce        buried 17 Aug 1865

I would be most interested  in seeing them if by chance they had headstones.

Regards, jackh
