Landfair-Waterdine Churchyard - Suzannah Griffiths
« on: Friday 22 February 08 00:22 GMT (UK) »
Suzannah Griffiths died in May 1905 and was buried in
Landfair-Waterdine Churchyard , June 3, 1905.

Help needed please!

What is the name of the church in this Shropshire cemetery.
Could it be St. Mary, Church of England?

Unfortunately, I cannot visit England.  Is there anyone, who visits this cemetery,
who would be interested in locating Suzannah's headstone for me?

The headstone information could be very helpful in locating Suzannah,
the great great grandmother of a relative living in Australia.

Kindest regards
English Daisy

Hello English Daisy

I have just found your posts regarding Mellin-y-Grogue. I live ithere! - it is a small hamlet with an old farmhouse, mill and two cottages. The church at Llanfair is St Mary's. We are in Shropshire but very close to the Welsh border.(Llanfair is Welsh for Church of Mary).
Are you still interested in finding Suzannah Griffiths's headstone? It is not a very large churchyard so I could have a look for you if you would like.
We have a village website www.llink.org.uk which has a page on the church if you are interested.

Hi DTollers

Thank you for your offer to look for Suzannah Griffiths's headstone!

Susannah Griffiths (nee Edmonds or Edmunds) was christened about 1814
in Kerry, Montgomery, Wales.  She was buried, 1905 in Llanvair Waterdine, Shropshire.

Susannah married John Griffiths, christened about 1823, Shropshire.
John was a farmer's son.  John died about 1864/1865 in Llanvair Waterdine.

John Griffiths's parents information:
Father was Edward Griffiths christened about 1783, Shropshire.
Mother was Margaret . They married June 18, 1805 in Llanvair Waterdine.

It is possible that John and Susannah Griffiths graves may be near John's parents' graves.

Again, thank you for your kind offer to take a picture of tombstone and the
inscription on it.  Please PM me if you find grave/graves.

Regards

Sorry have been unable to locate Suzannah Griffiths headstone. Have found headstone for John Griffiths died July 15 (or possibly 16) 1879 age 65 and Susannah his wife died May 9 1893 age 71.
There are also headstones for Mary daughter died May 11 186? age ? and Henry son but unable to read the rest of the inscription.
There are 8 deaths for a Mary Griffiths registered in Knighton between !860 -1869 but, as far as I can see, only 1 Henry in 1861 (between the years 1850 and 1900.
I will ask the Churchwarden if there is a burial plot plan and also if the Burial Register is still in the Church and try and find out more info for you.
Regards

Hi DTollers

Thank you for your message.  The only additional information I have is mentioned below.  No Henry or Mary, is listed that I know of.  However, sometimes "Mary" is a nickname for "Margaret".

John Griffiths and Susannah (Susan) Edmonds married Dec. 1844 in Church of Llanfair Waterdine.

Childrens' Names:
William Edmond Griffiths (b. abt 1846 or 1841), Elizabeth (b. abt 1848), Margaret (b. abt 1850), Susan (b. abt 1853), Emily (b. abt. 1857) and John (b. abt 1858).

Son, William, immigrated to Victoria, Australia.

Your help appreciated.
