Hi Edward !

I believe the Bedford Militia list is at Kew !

I'll see if I can find out if you can get it on line or not .... you may have to visit ( or get somebody to visit for you !!  :) )

Do you have any names in particular you are looking for ?

Annie  :)

Edit .... silly me ! ... Edward was who you were looking for ... sorry !!  ::)

We went through the Muster lists last July. See Cathy's post on the thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,244393.msg1334360.html#msg1334360
which detailed an entry for Edward Haston at Yelden.

Lists after 1602 are held at BLARS and have been transcribed in the book mentioned by John

hi David
just notice that posting i done in July, i checked northants with northamptonshire history society and Alan Clarke CD,s and also 1777 militia lists but no joy. so my guess he must be from another county, that Edward haston could be him in 1803 yelden, but it does not prove he was born there, what about non-conformist records, would there be any for the year he was born 1755/56

If Northants Muster lists are as incomplete as those for Beds I don't think you can say he must be from outside Northants just because he doesn't appear on a Northants list.

Yes, non-conformist church books have survived for the mid 1700s. You need to check on the BLARS site for what's available http://www.bedfordshire.gov.uk/CommunityAndLiving/ArchivesAndRecordOffice/Genealogy/Non-ConformistRegisterTranscripts.aspx
but bear in mind that people used to travel miles to the church of their choice so IF he was non-conformist (he doesn't appear to have been but his parents may have been) he may have attended a church in Northants.

Remember also that even if his were parents were non-conformist they would in all probability have married in the established church, or have been buried in the parish church. There are no Hodson marriages in Yelden prior to Edward's and no burials before 1787, which leads me to think that Edward was not from Yelden

Regards

David

hi David
yes i think Edward must be from someplace else than yelden. to get married at 30/31 makes you think he travel around, Mary wingel must have moved to yelden because i can't find any records for her or her family-Wayne
