George MILLS baptised at Chatteris 7 Sept 1862 son of Samuel Thomas and Alice MILLS, cordwainer, born 16 Feb 1862

Marriage at Chatteris 27 Sept 1861 Simon MILLS 29 bachelor cordwainer son of Robert, tailor, and Alice CLARRIDGE spinster 21 dau of William, lab. Witnesses Joseph Edward CLARRIDGE and Robert MARTIN (who witnessed many marriages so was probably an official)

I can't see any other baptisms in Chatteris (perhaps they turned non-conformist)  but there are various later marriages of children of Simon or Thomas shoemaker (Thomas, Rose & Walter).  Shout if you want details.

Shows the danger of trying to do it all from the internet, without certificates or reference to parish registers. The marriage is on FreeBMD under Simon MILLS - the marriage is also thrown up by searching against "Mills" and "Alice"

What are "bat details" which you say I gave you? He was a cordwainer not a cricketer

David

PS I've rechecked the transcript and you got what is there "Samuel Thomas". I'm just the messenger. It's up to you to do the interpretation

Sorry David, it should have read, on the details that you gave me....also I didn't mean it to sound like I was criticizing you at all  :o, just checking that it wasn't a typo error...!

Should have known it was right as he seems to have several names..On cert he is down as Simon Thomas Mills occ Shoemaker?
Thanks for info and help both, back to the elusive Robert Mills now.. ;)

Hi Bagsey

This is the closest I can see

Robert Mills 30 Tailor  J  Born in county

Living at Main Street, Downham, Cambridgeshire

H0107/ 77/ 2
folio 8
page 11

Also in Downham Union Workhouse, is this bunch of kids
William Mills 10   born in county
Thomas  "     8            "
Charlotte  "  7             "
Edward    "   3            "

H0107/ 754/ 10
folio 40
page 4

I wonder if Roberts wife died, and as he was a tailor journeyman, he put the kids in the district union workhouse ???
