SCOTT in Paisley circa 1778
« on: Tuesday 26 February 08 13:27 GMT (UK) »
Hoping someone can help please  ???

I'm trying to find information about the family of (and especially the parents of) John SCOTT who was born circa 1778 in Paisley, Renfrew. (According to his 1841 census entry in Dalserf, Lanark.).  John, whose occupation was a weaver,  married Mary FERGUSON in Barony, Lanark in 1799 and so far I have identified these children:

William 1800 (born Glasgow, Lanarkshire)
Janet 1803 ( born Isle of Man)
John 1805
Thomas 1809-1809
Elizabeth 1810
Robert Moor 1812
Thomas 1814
Alexander 1816 (all of the above born in the Isle of Man)
Alexander 1819 (born Glasgow, Lanarkshire)

Any advice much appreciated  :)

I do not go back that far yet but I have a death certificate that has my Alexander Scott passing away in Jan 1866, age 36, parents both dead, Alexander Scott the father coal miner and Mary (nee Faulds) the mother.  Found drowned near Temple in the parish of New Kilpatrick.

I curious if the Alexander Scott listed as the father of my Alexander could be part of your family group listed.

Just for information the 1841 census states John & Mary both age 60 born Lanarkshire, in 1851 John now a widower age 73 born Paisley, Renfrew. No records there for John around that time on SP.

I do not see a likely baptism in Renfrewshire for John and it looks likely that he died before 1855 when Statutory Registration began, no death records at Dalserf or Barony in the periods concerned.

Given the names of John & Mary’s children, the best I can come up with might be worth a look.
