Bradden Parish registers - CASHEN
« on: Tuesday 26 February 08 19:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi - I've just discovered my Manx ancestry. I'm looking for a Philip Cashen born about 1720 in Braddan. His father was a William Cashen of Onchan born in about 1678. Any information on marriages, spouses & siblings gratefully received. I've been to the island on holiday and never realised I had ancestors there until recently!

Isle of Man is well covered by the International Genealogical Index at www.familysearch.org.

There is a Philip Cashin, father William, born on 2nd July 1720 in Bradden. There are also several other children born about the same time with father William so these might all be your family.

You should be able to trace the family using the IGI.

There is also a website which has good information about Isle of Man.

www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/

Hope this helps.

Regards

Ruby

The   parish   is     BRADDAN  .    The    church  is   named   KIRK   BRADDAN.  The  original   church is near
the   "NEW"  one  &    referred  to   as  Old  KB  &   KB.  The  old  one  has  a  graveyard   but  more  recent
burials   are   about  half  a mile   away  up  a   steep  hill---  very  large   graveyard  for   all  people  in  the
area  not   just   C of  E   parishioners.

By   the   way  the  old  church  is   still  open  to  the  public  daily  &  has  occasional  services -- candles/  oil
lamps  etc. &   fundraising   teas  to  see   the  snowdrops  in   spring  &   help  look  after  the  building.
