Can anyone please help with this, trying to find Granddads war diaries on the Long Long Trail.
PRIVATE E MATTHEWS
THE KINGS (LIVERPOOL REGIMENT

Bit confused if I have correct listing, is it this one I have copied below.

August 1914 : in Liverpool. Part of Liverpool Brigade, West Lancs Division.
February 1915 : transferred to North Lancs Brigade.
18 April 1915 : transferred with the Brigade to 51st Division, and Brigade became 3rd Highland, later the 154th Brigade.
7 January 1916 : transferred to 165th Brigade, 55th Division.
31 January 1918 : transferred to 171st Brigade, 57th Division, and absorbed 2/8th.
Many thanks.

Hi.
My granddad was in the 8th Liverpool Irish, William Swann.  He was injured 1817 and spent a lot of time at Netley Hospital.
I have a book 'The Story of the 55th (West Lancashire Division) by The Rev. J.O. Coop, published by The Naval & Military Press.  Got mine from Amazon, they have some now, but a bit pricey?
Is that what you meant by a diary?  I does give day to day events.  I haven't read it all!

Hello Jean,
Thank you for you reply, but it was actually the war diaries tracking the divisions movements that I was trying to locate.
Many thanks.
Peter.

Hello Peter, I got immense help from Maj. Ian Riley. We had thought my dad was in The Liverpool Scottish, because there are a few photographs of him wearing the kilt. He was by this time a P.O.W.
and the photos were a bit of fun we now think. He was in The 1/7th and it was The 1/10th who were The L. Scottish. Maj. Riley will point you in the right  direction.I will send a personal message.Viktoria.

Hello Peter
Just realised I put 1817 instead of 1917! Silly me.
I know what you mean after following the links.  I have been on the site before.

The book is actually mentioned on the link from Phil.  It is very detailed with movements and maps.  Some pages are reproduced in the link too.

Good Luck
Jean

Hi Peter

Looking at his index to the MIC on the NA site he was previously with the Essex Regiment. Six digit numbers were only issued to the territorial battalions (including the Liverpool Irish ) in March 1917 so he must have joined them later than that.
