Conquest family in Cardington
« on: Wednesday 27 February 08 16:47 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Just been looking at posts about Bedfordshire, and was interested to see mention by Bedfordshire Boy about the Cardington census of 1782.  I wonder if my Conquest ancestors were on this?  It would have been William Conquest, born c.1738 and wife Elizabeth, plus children Mary, Thomas and William.

I visited Cardington last year, but of course had no idea whereabouts they lived.  I had no luck searching St. Mary's churchyard either, where according to an MI microfiche I got from the Bedfordshire family history society, there should have been gravestones for William, born c.1776, buried Aug 1841 and his wife Mary.`Oh well, what did I expect, the MIs were recorded in 1928!

Yes, they're there. Give me a few minutes and I'll transcribe the entry

Hi David,

Thanks so much for that - it's great! I had gathered from my reading of posts that you are a mine of information on Bedfordshire!  Of course it wouldn't have been any help in finding the cottage they lived in, even if it was still there.  Interesting that the cottage was three tenements.
